Kamish pens (traditional reed)

Traditional reed qalam pens have been used for Arabic calligraphy for centuries and are still used by current masters of Arabic calligraphy. They are made from river reeds which are left to mature for several years after harvesting, giving them not only the beautiful colours but mainly their strength and suppleness.  Reed pens from Dezfouli region of Iran are considered the best.
