From Arabic 'place to cut'. makta is small slab of hard material used as a support for cutting nibs of bamboo and reed qalam pens and it is extremely useful tool for Arabic calligraphers who prefer to open their own pens and cut their nibs.
This makta is beautifully crafted from white bone sitting firmly on piece of wood with sanding paper glued to the bottom for the minute nib adjustments.
