Bamboo qalams are probably the most widely used type of pen primarily because bamboo sticks are widely available and are very easy to shape and cut. Their main disadvantage is that they require frequent re-cutting.
Our larger size bamboo nibs have been made from spotted bamboo - a stronger bamboo variety making them last considerably longer between cuts. Nibs are set in beautiful turned wood handles.

To increase the time between cuts, use water-based inks and always clean the nib after use.
