This small hand pad of natural tanned rabbit skin is placed under the writing hand (fur side down) to help relieve strain on the wrist, enable easy glide of the hand across the paper (particularly useful in long strokes), and prevent hand from greasing the paper.
It also very useful in humid conditions as it stops the hand sticking to the paper.
